In honor of children's love for bland food, I celebrate macaroni and cheese...with Ritz crackers.

Baby on Board!

Here's the big news: I'm pregnant!

What does this mean for clients? Well, I'm still designing anything and everything you need until the end of August (um, babies are expensive folks). The wee one is due in September so I'll be taking a few months off for maternity leave, and probably banging my head against a wall without the comfort of my Wacom tablet and drawing board. I'll be out of commission September through December and then opening shop again in January. So, get your graphics while you still can and while I still have a brain that is not sleep deprived and occupied with the world of diapers and strollers. Also please feel free to call and email me during that time as I cannot let go of my addiction the iphone. Send me encouraging words. I have a feeling I will need them as I'm about to face my biggest design challenge yet!

Be a Part of the Baby Typography Mural Project!

As you can imagine, I've already been perusing pantone chips for the nursery walls. I am also hard at work on a typography mural (seriously). The little designer-to-be is a boy so I have to say I'm concerned that he won't share my enthusiasm for vintage domestic imagery. Nevertheless, I feel fairly confident that I can instill a love of the alphabet through a cool typography mural.

Inspired by the book The Serif Fairy, by Rene Siegfried, I'm creating a mural of cars, trucks, and trains all out of typography. Check out my example to the left. So now, I challenge all of you budding designers out there to contribute to the project. Submit a vehicle of your choice out of Futura or Century Gothic type, and I will try to include it in the final design. Please send your submissions via jpg or pdf. I'll be posting images of the final mural on my blog in a few months .

Featured Project: Animal Fair Magazine

This spring I designed and laid out the entire travel issue of Animal Fair magazine. While I've done magazine work before, this was my first experience doing EVERYTHING: design, layout, and production of the whole 84-page publication. I really enjoyed it and think it looks great. (I should qualify my use of the word "everything" as being design-related as I certainly would not want to steal the thunder of the editor and writers who worked so hard to bring this issue to life!)

freelancer
So check it out on my site, but more importantly, buy this magazine on newsstands as the publication is not-for-profit and the organization works to rescue needy animals. As you might know, I have two rescue kitties and they make great companions.
