Comfort food. With a cottage cheese crust.
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup sifted flour
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cup creamed cottage cheese
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 8-oz can tomato sauce
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup mozarella cheese
- 1 egg yolk, slightly beaten
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
Cut butter into flour and salt to resemble coarse meal. Add 1/2 cup cottage cheese and mix until dough holds together; chill 1 hr. Heat oven to 375º. Make filling: Brown meat in a skillet; drain excess fat. Add onions, garlic seasonings and tomato sauce; simmer 5 minutes. Roll out dough on floured board to 15x13”-rectangle. Spread 1/2 meat mixture down center lengthwise, leaving 1-inch borders at both ends. Mix egg, mozarella and 1 cup cottage cheese; spread meat and top with remaining meat mixture. Fold borders over filling; roll lengthwise and pinch edges together to seal. Place, seam side down, on greased baking pan; perforate dough with tines of fork. Brush top with beaten egg; sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
